Minutes of the July 12, 2010 Meeting
Call to order: President Chita Stewart called the meeting
to order at 7:05 p.m.
Guests: Gary and Leatrice Moniz who were invited
to the MDE appreciation dinner for their help from the Kunia club.
Approval of Minutes: The minutes of 6/7/10
were approved as distributed.
Treasurer’s Report: Our current balance is:
$5,016.72. Checking: $2,532.11; savings: $1,325.35 and CD:
$1,159.26. Receipt was received from Mililani Mauka for the
use of their cafeteria for the months of July through November.
OLD BUSINESS:
Mother’s Day Event: Chita thanked everyone in helping with the
Mother’s Day Event (MDE) in setting up the sellers’ tables, banners, lunch
table, orchid display, and all the hard work involved for the event.
She said that no plants will be given out at this meeting to those who
helped at the MDE because plants from the display were given to members
on the day of the MDE. She also thanked everyone for bringing potluck
items for the Appreciation dinner that will be enjoyed after the meeting.
NEW BUSINESS:
Chita said that she will chair the 2010 Christmas party in December
but will need members to volunteer to be on the committee to help her.
A map to Fern Fernandez’s house was passed out to members who were planning
to attend his “hands-on potting” experience on July 17.
Announcements:
1. Chita said that we received the AOS magazine if anyone is
interested.
2. She also told us the sad news that Marion Oka, Ed Oka’s wife,
has passed away. Ed Oka is a member
of many orchid clubs and is also an orchid judge.
3. Chita reminded members to sign-up for August refreshments.
4. She also said that we all need to clean-up after the dinner
and since there is lots of food to please
take home the leftovers.
Adjournment: The meeting adjourned at 7:15 p.m.
The next general meeting will be held on August 2, 2010 at the Mililani
Mauka Elementary School.
Respectfully submitted,
Gail Yamanaka, Secretary

MAHALO to all the members who brought in potluck items for the MDE Appreciation
dinner. There was so many ono dishes topped with having a beautiful
Mahalo cake (thanks to Chita’s picking it up) and Fern’s special tropical/ice
cream drink in his fancy glass jug. Boy, did we all gain a lot of
calories! That’s ok – everybody did their exercise the next day,
right? Also, want to give special thanks to our refreshment
co-chairs – Sets and Laura – who are always there making sure that everything
is setup and cleared before we leave. We really appreciate you both!
BIG THANKS goes to Fern, our “orchid guru”, who graciously invited members
to his house on July 17th and gave a “hands-on” experience on repotting
cattleyas. About 10 members attended his session and all got a good
insight of his techniques/information on his potting techniques.
