MAHALO TO Bernie Cabilao for his presentation on “How to Grow Honohonos” at our June meeting.  Bernie showed the members how to cut the honohono stems and what kind of media to use.  He said that for small pots just use sphagnum moss and for other sized pots use a mixture of the moss, perlite and hapu.  Then he showed how to make holes in the pots so they could be hanged.  Bernie recommended to use 13-13-13 fertilizer.  Water is very important to honohonos so be sure to water regularly.  Honohonos bloom in the month of March, so let’s see how our honohonos will do next year by using Bernie’s techniques.

”MISSED” MDE THANK YOU goes to:  Gary Moniz, Kunia Club President,  who acted as our judge for the MDE plant display and he and Don Minatoya (Kunia member) also helped us with our setup on Friday night.  Thanks Gary and Don!
